1) I figured I would cue the students learning and peak their interest in the area, by having them watch two videos found on youtube that talk about the importance of correct measurement etc.

The links are

I will ask the students to look at the importance of having correct measurement? What can go wrong if our measurements are off?  Who suffers when we are incorrect?  What factors go into determining a successful bungee jump?

2) I will also have the students watch a video of another class perform a similiar experiment using a Barbie doll.  They will watch the students perform the experiement and how to find the line of best fit.  This will help them visualize the process.  This can be found on PBS Learning Media.

3) The students will be provided with an excel spreadsheet to record their measurements.

4) At Quizlet, they will have flashcards, that will help assess and build their understanding of key terms they will use throughout this activity.

Something you might want to consider are virtual labs.

Sites like: LearningScience.org http://www.learningscience.org/physci.htm or Physical Science Virtual Labs on Live Binder https://www.livebinders.com/play/play?id=304463

These types of labs allow for repeated trials in a smaller amount of time, they also help to cut down costs. Students should always experiment with the real thing, but might have better results if they can try it out vitually.

Fun idea using a Barbie doll as your test dummy.

What if you used an egg inside of some sort of simple harness?  I think a broken egg might also help with the "what can go wrong" idea.
